Santa Lucia alle Malve / Church
Church
Exterior
The church has as its covering structure the rock plateau, that in medieval times was used to accommodate numerous burials. This plateau, the so-called barbarian cemetery, with all its discontinuities and irregularities, certainly interferes with the conservation of the church below. In years gone by, the plateau was covered with soil on which wild plants grew, including mallow, from which the church takes its name.
Interior
The interior of the church is divided by irregularly sized pillars, cut into the rock and roughly squared, into three naves of equal length, each ending in its own apsidal area.
The left aisle has three distinct rooms: the andito (a false construction of stone blocks separating it from the aula), the aula and the apse. The nave runs uninterrupted towards its apse, while the left aisle is interrupted transversally in the central part by the wall with the altar of Santa Lucia.
