Discoveries

The cleaning operations yielded surprising results, bringing to light frescos, hidden by old paints.
In fact, the new paintings have been discovered removing the monochrome layers that had hidden them from view: on the altar wall, a figure was brought to light, probably Sant’Agata, given the attributes of martyrdom: the palm, the pincer and the severed breast.
On the upper part, under the bifora, precious remains of an interesting medieval palimpsest with the superimposition of three painted layers have been found; in the two visible layers, Sant’Eustachio is depicted with a cruciferous deer between whose horns the face of Cristo is clearly visible. On the same wall, to the right of the central niche above the altar, a further depiction of Santa Lucia (?) was discovered by removing the monochrome layers that covered it.
