Museums and Exhibitions / Policoro
Policoro Museum
At Policoro, an extensive environmental monitoring was conducted, following the Environmental Data Sheet protocol in the museum halls and in the depots, and 83 display cases were recorded in which approximately 4.000 painted ceramic objects, precious metal jewellery, bone and ivory, amber, and coral are exhibited. About 15.500 boxes and about 140.000 objects and fragments are stored in the depots.
The environmental monitoring of the exhibition halls and depots, conducted from May 2018 to February 2019, consisted of checking the microclimate and air quality, lighting and an entomological check carried out using adhesive traps, to assess the permeability of the rooms to the entry of insects, and fauna in general, from outside.
A general assessment of the museum was thus carried out, including the depots, and the efficiency of the various display structures (showcases) and storage methods were evaluated. At the same time, a survey was carried out of the state of conservation of the objects on display or in storage, and action was taken on those that needed conservation intervention, removing them from the showcases or storage boxes and carrying out maintenance or restoration work.
