Environmental monitoring activities were conducted at Lanfranchi Palace to assess the exhibition conditions of the permanent collection of paintings, which also includes some frescoes detached from local rupestrian churches.
The microclimatic monitoring carried out in the hall of the detached frescoes and the medieval and Renaissance paintings made it possible to assess the differences between the environmental conditions of the rupestrian churches where the detached frescoes came from and those in the museum, highlighting strong microclimatic differences between the two, and thus, discouraging the hypothesis of relocating the detached wall paintings to their sites of origin.
Microclimate, air quality and lighting parameters were also monitored during the exhibition Rinascimento visto da sud. Matera, Southern Italy and the Mediterranean between 1400 and 1500, which was held from 19 April 2019 to 15 September 2019.
On display were paintings on canvas and on wood, polyptychs and patron saints, stone and wooden sculptures, incunabula, 16th century manuscripts, illuminated manuscripts, textiles, ceramics and goldsmith’s art, particularly from museums and major cultural institutions throughout southern Italy, but also from international museums.
The inspection showed a controlled environmental situation throughout the exhibition.
For the exhibition Trama doppia. Maria Lai Antonio Marras, held from 8 December 2019 to 8 March 2020, given the particular sensitivity of the exhibited works to light radiation, a particularly precise monitoring of the lighting parameters was conducted. The exhibition featured over 300 works by both artists executed with textiles, embroideries, carpets, ceramics, frames, sheets, robes and drawings.
